The Australian reported on the rise of Adelie Penguins on Beaufort Island thanks to climate change on 22 March. On the same day, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) formed new ties with the Korean Institute of Ocean Science and Technology.
On 10 April, SPREP released their April edition of Climate Change Matters and reported on Better Coastal Management in Kosrae with Tidal Predictions.
This week (9-12 April) academics from Fiji, Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu and PNG as well as Australia are participating in a collaborative workshop on research writing at James Cook University in Townsville.
According to the JCU press release, the workshop is funded by the Crawford Fund, with support from the two research projects in which all participants are involved: “Sustainable management of soil and water resources for oil palm production systems in Papua New Guinea” (funded by ACIAR) and “Mangrove Ecosystems for Climate Change Adaptation & Livelihoods” (funded by European Union through IUCN).
